Hey kids, your favorite uncle cadaver here, Von Toten. this heres a 23 x 35 poster i just finished up for my friend ginos story. i actually drew it 2 yrs ago durin my 4 yr dry up. just recently dusted it off cleaned it up and spilled colors on it. hard workin on somethin that old but wasnt a bad drawin. in after thought. i think i shoulda just done all flats like i normally do. many gradients ya cant see cause they werent picked up the way i liked, tried somethin different, ah well. well here it is anyways. ya wont be able to see most detail. too big. all characters here copyright and owned by Gino Finocchiaro. later days

So impressive, man. I'm a Flash junkie too. This has got to be easily one of the best pics I've ever seen using it...

How's that for some smoke up your ass? :D Seriously though, good work.

I like all the art, but I agree with you Bob.
There is something about the piece that is keeping it from really standing out. I don't know how you feel about a little critiquing, but if you don't mind...maybe I can give it a shot. ;)

It might be a combo of the use of color and your use of space. It seems a bit busy and crowded.

Maybe giving a little more space around the logo might help. My eye is going all over the place and not necessarily being drawn into it. Maybe having less characters in the scene might help.

Also, some of the monsters (especially in the extreme foreground can be darkened and blurred a bit. There are bright colors all over this piece, so that may have your eye bouncing all over the place. Maybe some of the colors for the characters in the background can be less saturated. Adding slight lighting from the night sky and the energy beams bouncing off of some of the other characters may help too.

I don't know if it's too late to play around with it, but I hope that this may give you an idea of how to make such a great poster even better.

I hope that you didn't mind me trying to give you a few suggestions (Some people don't like constructive criticism at all). It only helps us grow as artists.

Anyways. The characters are great. I can't wait to see more.

nah nah, appreciate it! those are some good crits bro, yeah thing is, the guy was specific on how many dudes he wanted in the peice so, was hopin i was leavin enough space up top for the eyes, also it is 23 x 35, so i was hopin on that size to help the difference, i think youre right about the colors, i think not enough contrast maybe, also.. what killed me was, i tried somethin new, i dont know why but, i wanted to try the blend modes in flash 8, i dont know they didnt help as much as i woulda hoped.. man, i cant really re-visit it at this point though, already revisited it too many times haha! dont even want to look at it, but you give great ideas and thoughts for me to think about in the future, carlos, and i do appreciate it, and if anything, the piece helped with that, such an old drawin it is..

Yeah, I know. Clients always have the tendency of screwin' things up, but as much as you try and guide them...it always comes down to what the client wants. And we all know that the client has to be happy happy so that we can get the cashy cashy.

It's cool man. I'm glad that you were able to use and take in some of my suggestions. Just keep it in the back of your mind and use them for the next big project.

That's cool that your using flash for your illustrations because that's what I do too (At least for cleaning up the lineart). Maybe we can compare notes one of these days or somethin'. ;)

I like using flash, even to draw over scanned rough pencil sketches to get a quick and clean drawing. I just wish that flash had better brush options.
